BT Sport to become TNT Sports from July
It follows the Warner Bros Discovery link-up announced last year
BT Sport will be renamed TNT Sports from July.
The change comes after BT Sport and Warner Bros Discovery completed the formation of a joint venture in September last year.
Just prior to the start of the new Premier League season this summer, discovery+ will become the new streaming home for TNT Sports and Eurosport, while the existing BT Sport channel will be rebranded TNT Sports on television channel listings.
Eurosport will continue as it is for the time being, but will eventually be rolled into the new brand.
The combination of the two platforms means Premier League and Champions League football and Olympic Games coverage will be brought together in one place.
BT Sport was officially launched in August 2013, with the platform having secured its first cycle of Premier League rights in the UK the year before.
It has been the exclusive home of Champions League football since 2015.
Andrew Georgiou, board member of the joint venture and president and managing director of Warner Bros Discovery Sports Europe, said: “Today is another important step towards the launch of a simpler and even more compelling offering for sports fans in the UK and Ireland.
“The TNT Sports name is already synonymous with premium live sport in a number of countries around the world and a further sign of the global scale and expertise that Warner Bros Discovery brings to its partnership with BT.
“While Warner Bros Discovery is excited to contribute its global scale and capabilities, together with its growing portfolio of premium entertainment, we are also determined to ensure we don’t compromise on the inimitable, local style that is at the heart of the way BT Sport has connected with fans over the past decade.
“Remaining authentically local will remain key to our success.”
