The Chief Constable of Merseyside Police appeals for help following an attack on a 93-year-old woman
Andy Cooke has urged people with information to get in touch
A chief constable has urged people to ignore "no-grass culture nonsense" and help "catch the scum" who burgled a 93-year-old woman and left her injured.
Andy Cooke, head of Merseyside Police, labelled the overnight break-in at the pensioner's home in Liverpool as "horrendous".
Police released photographs of bruising to the victim's face caused by masked offenders who struck at the property in Herm Road, Vauxhall, at about 2.25am on Wednesday.
One of the offenders placed his hand over the woman's mouth in her bed to prevent her from speaking.
A quantity of cash was taken from the house.
Police said the unnamed woman was "badly shaken" and taken to hospital suffering from shock and facial injuries.
An investigation is under way and house-to-house, forensic and CCTV inquiries are being carried out in the local area.
